Stuart is an architect and communicator. He is a freelance writer on design, architecture and urbanism. He is director of the award-winning architectural practice HAW, based in Melbourne. He is working on a series of adaptive re-use and public projects currently. He is a member of multi-disciplinary SLASH projects, which recently won the Royal Adelaide Hospital Site competition. He consults nationally on design review and project formation.
He has taught architecture widely, at both RMIT and Monash University. He co-founded and co-hosts 'The Architects' on Melbourne 3RRR and has interviewed architects and designers from around the world. The radio show was exhibited in the 2012 Venice Biennale as part the Australian Pavilion.
His recent book, New Suburban, for Thames & Hudson, re-examines the suburban type and ideal in Australian and New Zealand housing. He has written for Architecture Australia, Architectural Review Asia-Pacific, House Magazine and Lonely Planet, and has developed content for ABC-TV's Art Nation and ABC Radio National.
